Year 5 - Sycamore
Welcome to Year 5 Sycamore!
Class teacher Miss Handisides.
This page is for our parents and children to use together and will provide information about what Y5 are learning, key dates, homework and helpful websites.
We have a fantastic year of learning ahead of us, with lots of opportunities to grow as independent, enthusiastic and creative individuals.
Key Information
Our PE days are Tuesday and Wednesday. Please ensure children have the correct PE kit which includes; black shorts, tracksuit bottoms or leggings, plain white or gold/yellow t-shirt, rugby shirt and trainers.
Our spelling test is on a Friday each week and new spellings will be given out.
Everyday Equipment
Children should ensure they have a water bottle, reading book and their planner daily.
Planners are checked on a Friday to monitor the weekly reads. Remember children should be reading at least 4 times a week and this should be recorded in their planner. Remember 4 reads = 4 dojos!
Autumn Term One
In Autumn term one, maths will see a focus upon number, as we examine the place value of numbers up to 1,000,000 and then apply this knowledge when adding and subtracting. We will also continue to expand our multiplication and division knowledge, so spend time fine-tuning our times tables knowledge on TT Rockstars.
In English we are reading 'The Wizard of Once', this book is about a young wizard and a young warrior and they are brought up as enemies, because they have been so busy fighting, ancient evil (a witch) has returned and so far been unnoticed! Our writing will involve; a descriptive paragraph, an internal monologue, writing the next part of the story and a detailed monologue.
Our history topic is The Tudors. We will be learning about the different Tudor monarchs, examining whether their reigns were a turning point in English history and debating if they deserve the reputations they even have today.
In RE, our focus will be upon Christianity as we look at why some people believe in God and examine how Christians live by the values of Jesus in the 21st Century.
Science we will explore animals including humans and will see how they develop through life over specific lifestyles and developments.
Our artist study will be Giuseppe Arcimboldo. We will produce a painting through our artists inspiration around The Tudors Post 1066.
In computing we are looking at sharing information, MFL is Spanish and we are looking at numbers and time.
