Careers and Aspirations
At Brookfield Primary Academy, we believe that every child should be empowered to dream big and understand the wide range of possibilities their future can hold. That’s why we are committed to exposing our pupils to different careers from an early age and supporting them to develop clear, ambitious aspirations as they move through the school.
We know that children begin to form ideas about their future roles in society from a young age. By introducing them to a diverse range of professions, industries, and real-world experiences, we help to broaden their horizons, challenge stereotypes, and inspire curiosity about the world of work.
Our approach is rooted in the belief that aspiration is not just about aiming high—it’s about understanding what’s possible. We want every pupil to leave our school with a strong sense of their strengths and interests, an awareness of the many paths open to them, and the confidence to pursue the goals that excite them most.
Through carefully planned, age-appropriate activities across each year group—from role model visits and enterprise projects to workplace encounters and skill-building opportunities—we help our pupils connect their learning to real-life contexts. We also work closely with families and the wider community to ensure our careers and aspirations programme is inclusive, inspiring, and impactful for every child.
Below, you’ll find our year-by-year plan, which outlines how we build this vital journey from early curiosity to confident, future-ready learners.
EYFS: People who help us, role play areas, story time, visitors, dress up, class discussions
Y1: Exploring jobs in our community, local walks, classroom helpers, draw your future
Y2: Understanding the world of work, skills spotting, STEM project: bridge for the Billy Goats
Y3: Visits from non-gender stereotypical roles, workplace virtual tours, school as a workplace/roles

We also promote many pupil leadership roles in school, which can be found under the Pupil Zone tab. These roles are advertised, pupils apply, are shortlisted, some are interviewed and when selected, wear a badge with pride and take a letter home to parents explaining their role in the school community.
