🌱 Pupil Eco-Committee

At our school, we believe that everyone has a part to play in protecting our planet — and our pupils are leading the way through the Pupil Eco-Committee.

The Eco-Committee is a group of environmentally-minded pupils from across the school who are passionate about making a difference. Their role is to help the school achieve the aims set out in our Climate Action Plan, ensuring we become a more sustainable, environmentally responsible community.

🌍 What Do the Eco-Committee Do?

The Eco-Committee work closely with staff and the wider school community to:

  • Raise awareness of environmental issues and promote sustainable habits across the school.

  • Lead initiatives such as litter picks, recycling drives, and energy-saving campaigns.

  • Monitor progress on the school’s Climate Action Plan and suggest new ideas to meet our goals.

  • Encourage pupil voice, giving all students a say in how we can protect the planet together.

  • Work on projects that support our key climate goals, such as reducing waste, improving biodiversity, and cutting carbon emissions.

The Eco-Committee met with 'Energy Heroes' on 2nd December 2025 and conducted a school audit. From this an action plan was written by the pupils:

1. Contact Solar for Schools about free solar panels

2. Switch off monitors and lights in classrooms when empty

3. Teach children how to use the thermostats in each room

4. Plant wild flowers around the bug-hotel to attract pollinators (Y5 to support younger pupils)

5. 'Meat Free Mondays' - lunch menu

🛠 Supporting the Climate Action Plan

Our Climate Action Plan sets out clear, practical steps for reducing the school's environmental impact. The Eco-Committee plays a key role in helping us take action in areas such as:

  • Energy Use – promoting ways to save energy and reduce our carbon footprint.

  • Waste Reduction – encouraging recycling, reusing materials, and reducing single-use plastics.

  • Active Travel – supporting walking, cycling, and other sustainable ways of getting to school.

  • School Grounds – improving green spaces, planting trees, and protecting local wildlife.

  • Curriculum Links – helping to embed climate education into everyday learning.

By working together, the Pupil Eco-Committee helps ensure that climate action is more than a policy – it becomes a way of life at our school.
