Welcome to Year 6 with Miss Sales and Miss Dickinson!
Summer Term 2026
Welcome to our Year 6 summer term page. This is going to be a busy, exciting and memorable term full of learning, special events and opportunities to shine. We have lots to look forward to, including our trip to Chester Zoo on 23rd April, SATs week beginning 11th May, and our Parson House residential from 29th June to 1st July.
Important Dates
Chester Zoo Trip – 23rd April
We are very excited for our class trip to Chester Zoo. This will be a fantastic opportunity to learn more about animals, habitats and conservation, as well as enjoy a fun day together outside the classroom.
SATs Week – Beginning 11th May
SATs week begins on Monday 11th May. We know the children have worked incredibly hard and we are very proud of them already. Please keep encouraging them to go on SATs Bootcamp regularly so they can keep their skills sharp, build confidence and feel fully prepared.
Parson House Residential – 29th June to 1st July
Our residential to Parson House will be a brilliant way to finish the year. The children will have the chance to develop independence, resilience and teamwork while making happy memories with their classmates.

What We Are Learning This Term
Reading
In reading, we will be studying Holes by Louis Sachar. This brilliant novel will give us lots to discuss, including character development, mystery, tension and theme. We will use the text to develop our inference, explanation and reading fluency skills.
English
In English, our main text is Macbeth. We will explore the story through narrative writing, setting description, soliloquy and speech writing. The children will focus on writing with atmosphere, ambition and control, using rich vocabulary and a range of punctuation for effect.

Maths
This term in maths, we will be learning about statistics, shape, and position and direction. The children will interpret graphs and charts, deepen their understanding of angles and properties of shape, and practise reading and plotting coordinates as well as describing movement and turns.
Science
In science, we begin with light, learning about how light travels, how shadows are formed and how we see things. Later in the term, we will move on to evolution and inheritance, where children will explore how living things change over time and how characteristics can be passed on.

History
Our history topic is Crime and Punishment. We will investigate how crimes, laws and punishments have changed throughout British history and think carefully about what these changes tell us about society in different time periods.

Art
In art, we will first create 3D clay sculptures inspired by Antony Gormley, exploring shape, form and structure. Later in the term, we will move on to printing inspired by Banksy, thinking about how artists use images to communicate ideas and messages.

Design and Technology
In DT, our focus is food, celebrating culture and seasonality. Children will learn about ingredients, where food comes from and how dishes can reflect traditions and cultures from around the world.
PE
In PE, we will begin with striking and fielding, developing skills through tennis and cricket. We will then move on to athletics, before finishing the term with rounders, where teamwork and game awareness will be important.
ICT
In computing, we will start with 3D modelling using Tinkercad, designing and creating digital models. Later, we will explore sensing using Micro:bits, learning how technology can respond to the world around it.
Spanish
In Spanish, we will be learning to talk about our holidays. This will include vocabulary linked to transport, packing and postcards, helping children to speak and write about holiday experiences with growing confidence.
RE
In RE, we will explore two big questions: For Christians, what kind of king was Jesus? and Why do some people believe in God and some do not? These units will encourage thoughtful discussion, reflection and respectful understanding of different beliefs.
Music
In music, the children will take part in a leavers’ song project. This will be a lovely opportunity to work together, perform confidently and celebrate their final term in primary school.
RSHE
In RSHE, we will be learning about growing up and change. We will think about how our bodies change as we get older, how our feelings may change, and how to stay clean during puberty. These lessons will be taught in a sensitive, supportive and age-appropriate way.
PE day – Friday
Homework will be set for Friday and due back the following Friday.
Children read 4 times a week at home.
