Maple (Y4 Ms Green)

Welcome to Y4 Maple Class!
We are looking forward to a fantastic Summer Term 2026, with lots of exciting activities planned.

Our PE day will be Wednesday and this term Maple Class will be developing their athletic and striking and fielding skills.
Please ensure your child has their full P.E. kit with them on that day.
Every day: planners, reading books and water bottles.
Our Literacy Texts for this half term are:
'Romans on the Rampage' by Jeremy Strong and 'The Day I was Erased' by Lisa Thompson.
Children - Please remember to complete your four reads every week and earn extra Dojo Points! Choose your vehicle on the classroom display, and do your best to reach the end of the race by Half Term!

In Science, we will be exploring Sound.
We will learn:
- What are good vibrations?
- How do we hear?
- High or low?
- How far away can sound be heard?
- What music did the Vikings make?
- Can you make music?

In History, we are studying the Vikings and Anglo-Saxons.
We will answer the following enquiry questions:
- The Vikings: Who? When? Why?
- Why did the Vikings travel in long ships?
- What no horns? What can we find out about the Vikings from archaeology?
- Was Alfred really ‘Great’?
- Did the Vikings ever come here?
- How different was life in Britain in 1066 compared to life in Roman times?

In Art this term, we will focus on developing sculpture techniques. Children will create larger coiled forms in their clay work, and attach pieces using a slip they have made themselves.

In Computing, we will explore Photo Editing.
We will focus on:
- Changing digital images and the composition of images
- Changing images for different uses
- Retouching images
- Fake images
- Making and evaluating a publication
In Spanish this term, we will focus on the vocabulary of
- Family members
- Alphabet and spelling names
- Physical description (hair and eyes)

In Maths, we will further develop our understanding of decimals, money, time, shape, statistics, position and direction.
Year 4 has a heavy focus on committing multiplication and division facts to memory, with quick recall tested in the first week in June as part of a national formal assessment process. To give your child the best chance of success, please ensure that they spend time each week practising their multiplication tables.
