๐Ÿ“š What We’re Learning This Term - Spring 1

We have lots of exciting topics to explore this term across the curriculum:

English

We will be reading and exploring the story Mole’s Star by Britta Teckentrup. This is a gentle story about Mole who finds a beautiful star and wants to keep it for himself, before learning about kindness, sharing and thinking about others. The children will use the story to develop their reading comprehension, talk about characters and feelings, and write simple sentences and captions linked to the text.

Maths

We will be developing our skills in addition and subtraction within 20, deepening our understanding of place value up to 50, and exploring length and height, weight and volume, and money. Lots of practical activities and problem-solving will help them build confidence and apply their learning in real-life contexts!

PE

In PE, we will be focusing on gymnastics, developing balance, control, strength and coordination through a range of movements and sequences.

History
Our history learning will focus on the lives of significant people, in particular Florence Nightingale, and how she helped to improve hospitals and care for others.

Science
We will be learning about the human body and the five senses, finding out what different parts of our body do and how our senses help us to understand the world around us.

Art
In art, we will be exploring collage, using different materials, textures and techniques to create layered pictures.

RE
Our RE topic is “Who is Jewish and how do they live?” where children will learn about Jewish beliefs, traditions and daily life.

RSHE
We will be learning about what makes a good friend and how we can help our bodies stay healthy, including looking after ourselves physically and emotionally.

Computing
In computing, we will be learning about programming, specifically how to give instructions to move a robot and understanding that programs are a set of clear steps.

We are looking forward to a fun and busy half term full of learning!
