SUMMER TERM 2
ENGLISH
Whilst following this six-week unit, pupils will study the language, plot, structure and characters of the beloved stories ‘The Selfish Giant’ and ‘The Happy Prince’ by Oscar Wilde. They will make connections with themes, morals and philosophical questions on a personal level which will enrich their understanding of the story and help them to produce thoughtful, meaningful writing. With a clear focus on the effect on purpose and audience, the teaching of grammatical structures and vocabulary is embedded in the reading and writing and pupils will explore how these create effects in the story then apply them to their own writing. The unit culminates in a final piece of writing where pupils can use all the knowledge and skills they have learnt across the six weeks, to write a traditional tale of their own.
MATHS
Time

Year 3 time objectives focus on mastering both analogue and digital clocks, calculating durations, and understanding units of time.
Children progress from telling time to the nearest 5 minutes to reading the nearest minute and transitioning
between 12-hour and 24-hour clock formats.
Science-
Year 3 Forces and Magnets objectives are designed to help students understand basic physical science concepts. These include identifying pushes and pulls, distinguishing between contact and non-contact forces, identifying magnetic materials, and learning how magnets interact with each other.
History- The Ancient Egyptians

ART - Portraits

We will: Look at famous portraits and artists, talk about careers linked to art, develop the skills involved in drawing portraits and finally create a portrait linked to Egyptians.
We will also be producing a piece of art linked to Rotherham's 'Picture This!' exhibition.
COMPUTING - Events and actions
This unit explores the links between events and actions, while consolidating prior learning relating to sequencing. Learners begin by moving a sprite in four directions (up, down, left, and right). They then explore movement within the context of a maze, using design to choose an appropriately sized sprite. This unit also introduces programming extensions, through the use of Pen blocks. Learners are given the opportunity to draw lines with sprites and change the size and colour of lines. The unit concludes with learners designing and coding their own maze-tracing program.
DT -

In this unit pupils will learn about products with lever and linkage mechanisms. They will explore a range of books and other products with these mechanisms and will learn how the mechanisms work. Children will learn how to make a range of lever and linkage mechanisms and will develop an understanding of input, process and output. Children will design a moving product for an intended user and purpose. They will apply their learning from the unit to make their product and will evaluate their completed products, judging the extent to which they have met the original design criteria.
RE How and why do people try to make the world a better place?

In this unit, pupils will find out about how Jewish, Christian, Muslim, and non-religious people try to care for the world. They will consider what motivates people from these worldviews to care for the world, basing their knowledge on scripture and religious teachings. Pupils will consider why the world is not always good and make simple links to religious (e.g Christian, Jewish, Muslim) and nonreligious (e.g Humanist) worldviews. They will find out about the Jewish idea of Tikkun Olam and consider how charities like Tzedek help Jewish people to live out ideas and teachings, considering diversity of views. Pupils will have opportunities to raise their own questions about caring for the world and consider the responsibility that everyone must care for the world.
PE- Tennis
Year 3 tennis objectives focus on developing racket control, hand-eye coordination, and basic rally skills.
