What is Sports Premium Funding?

The Sports Premium Funding is an initiative facilitated by the Government to enhance the provision of P.E. and School Sport in primary schools. The funding, a direct response to London 2012, has been available to primary schools since 2013-2014. Each year, primary schools receive a lump sum depending on the number of pupils on roll and then a further £10.00 per pupil on roll.

What is the funding used for?

Sports Premium Funding is carefully managed, evaluated and reviewed with an emphasis on improving swimming and sporting outcomes/achievements for all pupils. Funding is also used to promote and support the development of exercise and healthy lifestyles during unstructured times of the day such as break and lunchtimes.

At Brookfield Junior Academy we will use this funding to provide our children with more sports opportunities. We work in partnership with the Aston School Sports Partnership, and with our ACET Trust academies to:

  • Increase the amount of competition sport in which our children participate.
  • Make links to other community sports providers.
  • Develop additional clubs and activities for children, outside the curriculum. Encourage our children to improve their leadership skills through sport.
  • Give extra support in PE to our most talented children and include those with special needs in sport
